How we do things

My husband Nick and I live in a little, nook of West Virginia. We have five wonderful children, and one son-in-love. While our oldest three children have embarked on this journey called life, we are right in the thick of it with our youngest two girls.

Our girls are hands on with us in our endeavors. They are all in!  From the minute our puppies are born, we are right there, holding, snuggling, caring for each and every one. We get to know each puppy individually. We know their personalities. The girls are great.  They learn each puppy so well.  Chances are, if you have any questions about a particular puppy, they know.

The way we raise our puppies does come with a little drawback. We are so hands on that we get attached to each puppy we have here.  Letting go is never easy.  Knowing each puppy has a great family waiting for them makes it worth it.

Our puppies are raised in our home from start to finish. They are handled constantly. They hear normal noises of a house. They are accustomed to other dogs, are introduced to cats, are acquainted with extended family members and other children being in and out. They are comfortable being in a home with a family.

I say that to say, not all puppies are raised like that. Many breeders raise their puppies in kennels after a few weeks of age. While this is okay if you are good with that and know that upfront, it is not how we want to raise family members before they go home. It makes a difference. Sharing life with us before they go home makes a difference.

Once upon a time...

Growing-up, we always had dogs.  My parents raised Golden Retrievers when my sister and I were very young.  As we got older, we were finally able to have German Shepherds.  Shepherds were my true, first, canine loves.  My parents were very competitive in the AKC conformation circuit for many years.  Our vacations were weekends on the road showing dogs.  So much fun. So many great memories.

I helped mom and dad with everything from the general care and keeping. to training, to showing, to whelping litters. When I was 12, I delivered my first litter alone. I was hooked.  Delivering puppies and raising them, was by far my favorite thing.  My parents taught me so much.  Learning never ends. With 33 years of experience, I know a thing or two and I still love it.

After getting married, I gently eased my "non-pet" husband into my dog lovin' craziness.  Just kidding, we jumped head first into the deep end. We have been doing what we do ever since.
